Miles Mathews brings over 20 years of experience in both public and private sector government relations to HMWK. He specializes in regulated industries and financial services – including insurance, banking, consumer lending, credit cards and privacy – and has worked with a number of non-profit groups as well. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Mathews was a senior government relations manager at both ING Americas Insurance Holdings and MBNA America Bank.
Mr. Mathews leads HMWK’s efforts on behalf of its financial services clients and coordinates the firm’s efforts with several affiliated state and national trade associations. Mr. Mathews began his career with the Texas Department of Insurance’s Office of Public Insurance Counsel, where he was responsible for property and casualty insurance issues, including windstorm insurance coverages and rates.
Over the course of his career, Miles has served on the Board of Directors of eight state life and health insurance guaranty associations. He also served as Treasurer of the Texas Association of Life and Health Insurers and as a Board Member of both the California Bankers Association and the Association of California Life and Health Insurance Companies. In 2005, Mr. Mathews was recognized by the California Latino Legislative Caucus as a Padrino of the California Latino Caucus Institute for Public Policy and served for two years on the institute’s Corporate Advisory Council.
Mr. Mathews holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Baylor University and a Master of Public Affairs degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. He and his wife, Paula, are residents of Dripping Springs, TX and members of Sunset Canyon Baptist Church. Miles currently serves on the board of directors of the Friends of the Pound House Foundation and is a supporter of the Dripping Springs Education Foundation.
